History of the invention of the bulb?

The bulb was invented by Thomas Alva Edison. He started work on this invention in 1878. Even before Thomas Edison, many scientists were engaged in the search for the light bulb. The name of one of these scientists was Humphrey Davy who invented the first electric bulb in 1802. Humphrey Davy experimented with electricity to create a battery. When he connected the wire to the battery and put carbon together, the carbon started giving light, thus the first electric bulb was discovered. His invention was named Electric Arc Lamp. But the problem with this invention was that the light did not last long.

Then in 1840 British scientist Warren de La Rue placed coiled platinum filament in a vacuum tube and passed electric current through it. The purpose of this experiment was that the high melting point of platinum would keep it under control at high temperatures. So that there will be some gas molecules in the chamber which will react with platinum and the light will last longer than before. But the biggest problem with this experiment was that platinum is very expensive.

After this, in 1850, a scientist named Joseph Swan prepared an electric bulb by using Carbonized Paper Filaments in a glass bulb, but due to good vacuum and lack of electricity, it could not last long. By 1870, good vacuum pumps had come in the market, after which again Joseph Swan started his experiment. On 18 December 1878, he demonstrated the lamp prepared with the help of carbon rod at the Newcastle Chemical Society meeting, but after a few minutes it broke due to excessive electricity. After this, he made some changes in it and displayed the working lamp again in the meeting on 17 January 1879.

This experiment appeared again on 3 February 1879 during a meeting of the Literary and Philosophical Society of Newcastle upon Tyne. The resistance of the carbon rod used in this lamp was very low, due to which a large conductor was needed to transmit electricity to the lamp, so it was not suitable for general use or to be sold in the market. After this, his attention turned to the improvement of Carbon Filament, which he prepared with the help of Cotton, which was named Parchmentised Thread. He obtained the patent for this filament on 27 November 1880. Thomas Alva Edison patented it on 14 October 1878 under the name Improvement in Electric Lights in 1878. He did a lot of experiments, in the same way the world’s first bulb was prepared which could be sold in the market.

What Does LED Stand For?

A diode is an electrical device or component with two electrodes (an anode and a cathode) through which electricity flows – characteristically in only one direction (in through the anode and out through the cathode). Diodes are generally made from semi-conductive materials such as silicon or selenium – substances that conduct electricity in some circumstances and not in others (e.g. at certain voltages, current levels, or light intensities).

What is LED Lighting?

A light-emitting diode is a semiconductor device that emits visible light when an electrical current passes through it. It is essentially the opposite of a photovoltaic cell (a device that converts visible light into electrical current).

How Do LED Lights Work?

It’s really simple actually, and very cheap to produce, which is why there was so much excitement when LED lights were first invented!

The Technical Details: LEDs are composed of two types of semiconducting material (a p-type and an n-type). Both the p-type and n-type materials, also called astringent materials, have been doped (dipped into a substance called a “doping agent”) so as to slightly alter their electrical properties from their pure, unaltered, or “intrinsic” form (i-type).

The p-type and n-type materials are created by introducing the original material to atoms of another element. These new atoms replace some of the previously existing atoms and in so doing, alter the physical and chemical structure. The p-type materials are created using elements (such as boron) that have less valence electrons than the intrinsic material (oftentimes silicon). The n-type materials are created using elements (such as phosphorus) that have more valence electrons that the intrinsic material (oftentimes silicon). The net effect is the creation of a p-n junction with interesting and useful properties for electronic applications. What those properties are exactly depends mostly on the external voltage applied to the circuit (if any) and the direction of current (i.e. which side, the p-type or the n-type, is connected to the positive terminal and which is connected to the negative terminal).

Application of the Technical Details

When a light-emitting diode (LED) has a voltage source connected with the positive side on the anode and the negative side on the cathode, current will flow (and light will be emitted, a 

condition known as forward bias). If the positive and negative ends of the voltage source were inversely connected (positive to the cathode and negative to the anode), current would not flow (a condition known as reverse bias). Forward bias allows current to flow through the LED and in so doing, emits light. Reverse bias prevents current from flowing through the LED (at least up until a certain point where it is unable to keep the current at bay – known as the peak inverse voltage – a point that if reached, will irreversibly damage the device).
